The Waltham Symphony Orchestra, a full-complement symphony orchestra, is comprised of seasoned professional, semi-professionals, amateur and apprenticeship musicians from the Waltham area and surrounding communities. All musicians are admitted to the orchestra via audition. Orchestra members are involved in the audition process and musicians are admitted not only on the basis of their musicianship but also of their ability to integrate a very tight group

As the orchestra only rehearses two weeks prior to each concert, it is essential that musicians be dedicated to self-study and preparation due to the short and intense rehearsal schedule.

Since one of the goals of the orchestra is to foster an ambiance of camaraderie while at the same time perfecting the art of orchestral playing, musicians are often offered the possibility of rotating within their section, at the discretion of the music director and the section leader.

Musicians of the Waltham Symphony also form chamber music groups performing in formal settings such as concerts and private functions as well as for charity fund-raisers.  musicians are admitted to the orchestra via audition.
