THE SOLOISTS

DAVID MISLIN, ORGAN
DAVID MISLIN BEGAN THE STUDY OF PIANO AND ORGAN AT THE AGE OF NINE. HIS EARLY TEACHERS INCLUDED NANCY BASIRICO, JAMES AUTENRITH AND ALAN MORRISON. AT AGE SEVENTEEN, HE WAS ACCEPTED TO THE CURTIS INSTITUTE OF MUSIC IN PHILADELPHIA, WHERE HE RECEIVED AN ARTIST'S DIPLOMA IN ORGAN PERFORMANCE UNDER THE INSTRUCTION OF JOHN WEAVER. DAVID COMPLETED HIS UNDERGRADUATE STUDIES AT OBERLIN COLLEGE, WHERE HE MAJORED IN HISTORY AND STUDIED ORGAN WITH HASKELL THOMSON. HE ALSO HOLDS A MASTERS OF THEOLOGICAL STUDIES DEGREE FROM HARVARD DIVINITY SCHOOL. HE IS CURRENTLY A PHD CANDIDATE IN AMERICAN RELIGIOUS AND INTELLECTUAL HISTORY AT BOSTON UNIVERSITY. DAVID HAS PERFORMED RECITALS THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES AND UNITED KINGDOM, AND SINCE 2003 HAS SERVED AS MINISTER OF MUSIC AT PILGRIM CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH IN LEXINGTON.

YUKI BEPPU, VIOLIN
VIOLINIST YUKI BEPPU WAS BORN IN TOKYO, JAPAN, IN 1997 AND MOVED TO THE UNITED STATES WITH HER PARENTS IN 1999. SHE STARTED PLAYING THE VIOLIN AT THE AGE OF FOUR. SHE HAS BEEN A STUDENT AT THE NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY PREPARATORY SCHOOL (NEC) SINCE 2003. SHE STUDIES WITH MRS. KAZUKO MATSUSAKA, MS. JULLIANE LEE, AND MR. JOSEPH SILVERSTEIN. SHE WAS A FIRST PLACE WINNER OF THE NEC CONCERTO COMPETITION 2007 AND APPEARED AS A SOLOIST PLAYING WITH THE NEC YOUTH REPERTORY ORCHESTRA AT THE JORDAN HALL IN NEC (2008). YUKI RECEIVED THE LEONARD D. WOOD AWARDS (FIRST PLACE) AT THE YOUNG ARTIST COMPETITION 2008 OF THE PHILHARMONIC SOCIETY OF ARLINGTON. SHE APPEARED IN THE MASSACHUSETTS GOVERNOR DEVAL PATRICK INAUGURATION GALA WITH LYNN CHANG AND YO-YO MA (2007). YUKI PLAYED THE VIOLIN FOR A 6-DAY SERIES OF THE MUSICAL “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” WITH THE LEXINGTON PLAYERS IN THE SUMMER OF 2007. SHE PLAYS CHAMBER MUSIC AT NEC, AND HER GROUP “TRIO CON BRIO” PERFORMED FOR THE RADIO PROGRAM “FROM THE TOP” (2008). YUKI ALSO APPEARED IN THE CHAMBER MUSIC SERIES OF THE WINSOR MUSIC (2009). SHE PLAYED THE MOZART CONCERTO WITH THE LEXINGTON SYMPHONY (2010).

THOMAS WONG, VIOLA
THOMAS WONG, 17, A JUNIOR AT LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL, BEGAN PLAYING THE VIOLA AT AGE 9, AND IS CURRENTLY STUDYING WITH MR. ANDREW KOHJI TAYLOR AND MS. JING HUEY WEI.  OVER THE PAST EIGHT YEARS, THOMAS HAS BEEN A MEMBER OF FIVE RENOWNED ORCHESTRAS AND IS CURRENTLY AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THREE:  NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY YOUTH PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA (NEC) UNDER BENJAMIN ZANDER, WALTHAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA UNDER PATRICK BOTTI, MIT SUMMER PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA UNDER GEORGE OGATA.  PREVIOUSLY, HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE BOSTON YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA (BYSO) UNDER FEDERICO CORTESE, LONGY YOUTH SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA UNDER GEORGE OGATA.WITH THE BYSO AND NEC, THOMAS HAS PERFORMED IN COUNTRIES ACROSS EUROPE INCLUDING GREAT BRITAIN, PRAGUE, BRATISLAVA, AND VIENNA.  HIS MUSICAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS INCLUDE BEING THE FIRST VIOLIST TO WIN THE LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL CONCERTO COMPETITION, A SOLO PERFORMANCE WITH THE LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL HONORS ORCHESTRA, AND AS A MEMBER OF THE FORMATION QUARTET, HE REACHED THE QUARTER FINALS AT THE FISCHOFF NATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION AND PERFORMED ON NPR’S RADIO SHOW, “FROM THE TOP.”  IN HIS SPARE TIME, THOMAS GIVES BACK TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE MUSICAL OUTREACH COLLABORATION, AN ORGANIZATION HE CO-FOUNDED, WHICH PROVIDES FREE MUSICAL PERFORMANCES TO BENEFIT AND INSPIRE THE YOUNG AND ELDERLY.

   

 

 

 

TOM JEON, CLARINET
TOM JEON, 17, , IS CURRENTLY A JUNIOR AT LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL. HE BEGAN STUDYING THE CLARINET IN THE SEVENTH GRADE WITH CHRISTOPHER SALVO AND JONATHAN COHLER. IN THE SUMMER OF 2010, HE PARTICIPATED IN THE INTERNATIONAL WOODWIND FESTIVAL, WHERE HE PLAYED IN NUMEROUS MASTERCLASSES WITH WORLD-CLASS FACULTY SUCH AS EDDY VANOOSTHUYSE, CYNTHIA DOGGETT, AND JONATHAN COHLER. IN THE SUMMER OF 2011, TOM PERFORMED IN EUROPE’S MAJOR CONCERT HALLS SUCH AS THE RUDOLFINUM IN PRAGUE, AND THE MUSIKVEREIN IN VIENNA, WITH THE NEW ENGLAND CONSERVATORY YOUTH PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA UNDER THE DIRECTION OF MAESTRO BENJAMIN ZANDER. LATER THAT SUMMER, TOM STUDIED WITH CLARINETIST JEONG MIN SONG IN HIS NATIVE COUNTRY, SOUTH KOREA. TOM HAS ALSO BEEN SELECTED AS PRINCIPLE CLARINETIST FOR THE NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL HONORS ORCHESTRA LATER THIS MARCH. AT SCHOOL, TOM IS CONCERTMASTER IN THE HONORS WIND ENSEMBLE, AND PLAYS AS PRINCIPLE CLARINET IN THE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA, WITH WHOM HE PERFORMED LUIGI BASSI’S FANTASY ON THEMES FROM RIGOLETTO BY G. VERDI. TOM HAS ALSO CO-FOUNDED THE LEXINGTON HIGH SCHOOL’S MUSICAL OUTREACH COLLABORATION, WHERE HE COACHES CHAMBER GROUPS, ORGANIZES CONCERTS IN MUSEUMS, NURSING HOMES, AND PEDIATRIC CENTERS AROUND THE GREATER BOSTON AREA, AND WILL TRAVEL WITH THEM TO CHINA TO GIVE CHARITY CONCERTS, AND TEACH MUSIC AT RURAL SCHOOLS NEAR BEIJING.

SORAN SOPHIE LEE, VIOLIN
SORAN SOPHIA LEE, VIOLINIST, STARTED PLAYING THE VIOLIN AT THE AGE OF FOUR AND HAD HER FIRST DEBUT AT AGE SIX. SINCE THEN SHE HAS REACHED OUT TO BROADER AUDIENCE THROUGH LIVE PERFORMANCES AS WELL AS TELEVISED CONCERTS. SHE WON AWARDS FROM NUMEROUS INSTITUTIONS INCLUDING KOREA BROADCASTING SYSTEM, KOREAN CHAMBER ENSEMBLE, CITY OF PUSAN, DONG-A, YALE CHAMBER MUSIC COMPETITION AND STONY BROOK CONCERTO COMPETITION. SHE HAS PERFORMED AS SOLOIST WITH KOREAN SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA, PUSAN PHILHARMONIC, SUWON PHILHARMONIC, KOREAN CHAMBER ENSEMBLE, JK ENSEMBLE, AND STONY BROOK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA. AS THE WINNER OF KUMHO YOUNG ARTIST AUDITION IN 2001, SHE HAD A SERIES OF SOLO CONCERTS IN MAJOR CITIES OF KOREA. IN 2006, SHE TOURED WITH THE KOREA BROADCASTING SYSTEM ORCHESTRA AND THE CONCERT SERIES WAS TELEVISED NATIONALLY.  MS. LEE HAS PERFORMED IN JAPAN, GERMANY, FRANCE, THE NETHERLANDS, POLAND, BELGIUM, SWITZERLAND, AND CZECH REPUBLIC. IN 2007, HER DUO RECITAL WITH PIANIST ADAM BLONIARZ WAS BROADCASTED ON RADIO SUISSE ROMANDE IN SWITZERLAND. MOST RECENTLY SHE HAD A SOLO RECITAL AS A PART OF DAME MYRA HESS MEMORIAL CONCERT SERIES IN CHICAGO. SHE HAS BEEN INVITED TO PERFORM AT MUSIC FESTIVALS SUCH AS ACADEMIE DE MUSIQUE LAUSANNE SONATES, MOULIN D’AND MUSICQUE FESTIVAL, OST-WEST MUSIK FEST, WEIMARER MASTER KURS , WEINHEIM INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL, NORFOLK CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL AND MUSIC ACADEMY OF THE WEST. MS. LEE ATTENDED SEOUL NATIONAL UNIVERSITY AND RECEIVED HER MASTER OF MUSIC DEGREE FROM YALE SCHOOL OF MUSIC UNDER SYOKO AKI AND THE TOKYO STRING QUARTET. SHE IS CURRENTLY PURSUING A DOCTORATE DEGREE AT STONY BROOK UNIVERSITY STUDYING WITH PHILIP SETZER, PHILIPPE GRAFFIN AND THE EMERSON STRING QUARTET. IN 2008 SHE BECAME A SPONSORED MUSICIAN OF SWISS GLOBAL ARTISTIC FOUNDATION. SHE HAS BEEN A GUEST MEMBER OF THE MUNICH PHILHARMONIC AND PHILHARMONISCHES KAMMERORCHESTER MÜNCHEN SINCE OCTOBER 2010.
